In Great-Britain HSE stands for 'Health and Safety Executive'. In many cases, we may refer also to 'Health, Safety and Environment' which describes the tasks very well.
HSE regulates all aspects of the work-safety in the UK. From the British offshore sector that term has been included in German terminology, although in Germany the work-safety is governed both by the state Occupational Safety (Arbeitsschutzgesetz), as well as occupational safety (BGs). In addition, of course, the environmental protection laws and MARPOL are governing regulations.
Regardless of the sources of the norms it is undisputed that this area is hardly anywhere else as important as in the offshore. The work is associated with many risks and help is often far away. Given appropriate weather conditions, the teams are on their own.
Prevention starts before the act and is the highest responsibility of all parties involved!
